Alec. J. Laidlaw is a shareholder of Laidlaw & Laidlaw, PC.  He is a licensed Oregon attorney and is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of Oregon. His practice covers a wide range of cases, including real estate and land use matters, civil litigation, and family law cases.

Alec’s clientele have ranged from large land owners and large-scale builder/developers to individual families and homeowners. Prior to establishing Laidlaw & Laidlaw, PC, he served as general counsel for a builder/developer in Southern California. His noteworthy successes included spearheading the sale of multiple tracts of land to a local school district for use in the construction of new school facilities, and working with local elected government officials to help accomplish his clients’ goals while simultaneously ensuring support of local landowners and residents.

Alec has also worked in the insurance industry, where he defended real estate agents, land brokers, and financial services broker/dealers against negligence and malpractice claims. His experience gives him a uniquely broad understanding of real estate and land use matters from every perspective.

In May 2003, Alec earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of San Diego School of Law. During law school, Alec had the honor of serving as a judicial extern to United States Senior District Judge Rudi M. Brewster, Southern District of California. He also spent a year monitoring the California Contractor’s State Licensing Board, with his findings to be published in two forthcoming editions of the CALIFORNIA REGULATORY LAW REPORTER. Alec holds a Bachelor’s degree in history from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he was on the Dean’s List.

Alec finds great enjoyment in solving complex legal problems using a winning combination: thorough preparation, savvy and intense negotiation with opposing parties, and zealous dedication to serving his clients' best interests.

An avid outdoorsman, husband, and father of three, Alec enjoys hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. While experiencing the tranquility of the outdoors, he gains perspective that helps him stay well-grounded as an advocate for his clients.
